Talk:Technology in Language Arts

Hi Joe,
I came across this great site on Teaching Writing with Technology. It's about teachers' reviews of tools for the language arts classroom. It offers critical perspective on using technology to teach writing in the middle and high school levels. I noticed you haven't mentioned about using Wikis, E-Portfolios, or Distance Education yet in your chapter. Maybe this site will provide you with some information if you like to include more in your chapter. Also, you may want to link up your 'Blogging' and 'Podcast' sections to my pages. Overall, I think your chapter looks great! Very organized.

Hi Joe,
Your page looks great! Some great Language Arts resources you can add include:
the Jumpstart Series (Pre-K through 2nd grade), www.onemorestory.com, and kidspirtation (goes with inspiration - its the primary version of it). ~ Sandy
3-24-06 Hey Joe Nice job!! Your page is really organized and thorough. I loved how in the introduction that you broke down the different aspects of language arts and then tied that into technology. I also really liked how much description you gave on the different activites, examples and software. You really set up how a teacher could use it in their classroom!! So helpful!! Some quick suggestions: I think you should mix/match your Synthesis of Technology with your Advantages of Technology so that it shows how advantageous technology can be to your subject specifically. Also another barrier you could add could be that language arts teachers don't want kids to become dependant on spell and grammar checkers and not be able to correct their own work. Great job!! It looks awesome! ~Kim
3-24-2006 Hi Joe, Your wiki sure has a lot of information, I love it. One thing you might want to consider is adding links to your examples in the "Startegies For Integration" section as you did in other sections of your wiki. For instance provide links to podcasts, webquests (http://webquest.org/), etc... I think that way if people want to learn more they can jump on a link about the topic. Another suggestion I have is to capitalize the first letter in the first word of all your assessment questions. Last thing, you might want to copy and paste your wiki into word and spell check it. I noticed “Startegies For Integration" - Strategies is spelled wrong. Your spacing and layout look great (flows nicely and easy to follow), you look like a pro at this wiki stuff. Overall, Great Job! - Greg
3/24/06 Joe, your page is looking great. The information is extremely complete and accessable. I just wanted to make two small suggestions on the format of your page. First, as you have done such thurough research, and provided so much information, the page has gotten a bit long. You may want to consider including links at the bottom of each section to send the viewer back to the top of the page and the table of contents. The will decrease the time it takes to scroll though the page. Second, the first time i looked through your page i didnt even notice all of the links you included. You may want to consider providing your links as the full URL as opposed to simply the number links you currently have. You can do this by simply removing the [brackets] surrounding the links on the 'edit' page. Good luck finishing up, it looks as though you are almost done. ~ Matt
3-25-06 Hi! I've posted my feedback for you as an audio file: Joe's Feedback From Demetri. Please be aware it's a fairly large (1-2 Mb) mp3 audio file, so it may take awhile to download, and you need an audio player to listen to it, such as Windows Media Player or QuickTime installed. If you have any problems or questions, please contact me. Thanks, Demetri
3-26-06 Hola Tom!! Your page looks GREAT!! I love the "cases", the fact that you give credit to the teachers it's great! -Check the spelling in stategies for integration -Since Language arts is such a huge subject, wouldn't it be great to give some specific examples for vocabulary, reading fluency, comprehension, composition, and literary analysis. Maybe in a separate link within you wiki...I have to do that myself... -Also I haven't seen ESL students? I think that technology can help ESL students a lot in order to check spelling, create a picture dictionary, etc... maybe you can add a section dealing with that topic. Overall your wiki is (for me) the best, organized and very completed.. I have so much to do!!! see you
Deby
