Talk:Principles of Good Practice 5.0
From School Computing
Notes in preparation for AIMS retreat presentation on the PGPs:
How are you using these PGPs in your schools? How do you put these into practice?
Are these helpful in technology planning?
Is anything missing?
If you're in the self-study/accreditation process, are these PGPs helpful, and can you think of anything that should be changed or added?
As you look at each PGP, do you have links to related online resources that are helpful?
.

Number 3 Under the Professional Development section: "The school includes technology integration as an essential component of its professional development, provides the necessary time and resources for it, and ensures that educators acquire and demonstrate essential technology skills and proficiencies."
I wonder if this statement belongs under the leadership section. It seems that calendar modifications, hiring, and evaluation of faculty, staff and administrators are key components in the success of this principle. Should it be limited to "educators"; what about staff and administrators should they be included here? How can Heads of school, Division Heads etc. model use and provide leadership if they have not integrated technology into their tasks and planning? How can they have vision and incorporate technology into strategic planning and other administrative concerns like business continuity? If they cannot be expected to understand technology thoroughly enough to use it to its greatest advantage for teaching learning and administration shouldn't the IT Director be part of the admin team to suggest possibilities?
I think I disagree with number 1 in this section. I believe that the most important factor in technology integration is the school culture and expectations which are largely created and supported by school leaders. . [virginia corbiere, IT Dir. The Foote School]
